Looking quite a squad.. what about this young keeper, he had a good performance against France so no doubt about ability and won player of the year (I think) so possibly also indicates consistency.

Not sure I like that formation although Docherty probably better option in nets than Hart  :P

Jordan hart has left the building.

No harm to him, but would be way out of his depth at Championship Level

TonyH

Can't blame Hart for leaving, knows he'd be second choice and spend all season on the bench.
And if he did get a game he'd get pelters at the first slip up.

ghostofjimmysmith

I get McCall's point from the AP about keeping the squad together and waiting till folks have signed to know the budget. But even taking into account McDaid might still sign  we have known that we needed a keeper since the end of the season - why did he keep Hart hanging on for so long - and we have known since Boyle was released that we need a left back - unless Finn Ecrepont is going straight into the team.

Great that we have resigned who we have but would like to see left back and goalkeeper sorted out quickly.

On Hart, he and Ruddy should have got a special SPFL award for no-handedly keeping the league one title race interesting.

Really good news about McDaid maybe he was just away on long holiday..

Balloon Boy

still not convinced going for mccrorie is a good idea, would rather have had Cammy Bell, just look what having an experienced kepper did for livingston...

Would also have hoped some new signings would be on board already considering we've started pre season training....

titus

All very quiet on the new players front, has anyone heard anything to get excited about.

ayrG

Still only rumours floating about are Mcrorie the goalie and Harvie the left back. However just to keep everyone positive, this was our squad on the opening game of our last seasom in the championship two years ago;

GK Greg Fleming

DR Nicky Devlin
DC Darryl Meggatt
DC Peter Murphy
DL Paddy Boyle

MR Robbie Crawford
MC Ross Docherty
MC Jamie Adams
MC Paul Cairney
ML Michael Donald

FC Alan Forrest

Subs

Jordan Hart
Michael Rose
Craig McCracken
Mick Wardrope
Craig McGuffie
Jamie Thomas
Andy O'Connell

So i'd say our current squad is much better than that.

Agreed we are in much better shape - in principle - we went down last time because we had no decent strikers - we currently have 3.

However we have known we needed a left back since 1st May, can't help thinking anyone we are going for doesn't fancy it for some reason - training in Ayr? Obvious Hart was never going to be first choice so similarly known we needed a keeper for ages. No signed right back - Ferguson all right but not a superstar so not sure why we are letting negotiations go on so long unless we have really have nobody else lined up.

Try6Place

Agreed. Whilst it's great we've resigned decent players, still need new blood to STRENGTHEN. Doesn't fill me with confidence the idea of youthful/inexperienced keeper / leftback, hopefully be proved wrong. Don't think Ayr United will be a big enough draw for players until at least we are an established championship side, if that is possible. Think the off field side of club is letting us down, despite all the recent efforts, not enough. Not nearly good enough.

Balloon Boy

so what would you like improved off the field?

Try6Place

Don't have all the answers but we need a better or even a presence in the town and surrounding area, in a positive way somehow make it obvious we have a senior side locally, try to get good relations with local area.
I know the folk at club and volunteers are working hard and preparing for sponsor events etc., but don't really get the buzz around town. Maybe not going to the right places.

The real jolly

Great to see a general tidy and improvements to the stadium ie toilets,pa system and a good team of volunteers. However we can't rely on the donations of hard earned cash from 500 club members or the likes of the club shop to fund our season.Bums on seats is always the best way to get money in ,just another 100 punters is 1700 quid ,every empty hospitality box is another 1000 quid it's not rocket science but after our great season last year I just don't think we sell the club enough .Any money making ideas like the shirt sponsor draw or individual player sponsors ,season tickets etc we don't go and sell,it's usually up to people to go to the club !!!!! Really need to be more aggressive in selling ,going round businesses in the town ,leaflets through doors, posters to remind people we actually have a team,it's not everyone who looks at Facebook every day to see what's happening.

Balloon Boy

heard that our budget is bust & that the directiors have again had to dip into their pockets, fair play to them but hardly the news we need before the season has even started 7 we are without  a keepper or left back..

apparantly the left back we were after from QOS has resigned with them as well....

ghostofjimmysmith

Off the field, some evidence of a scouting network would be a massive improvement - as happens every summer under McCall, good work convincing players to stay etc  is undermined by the inability to have anyone lined up for positions we need to fill- as well a lb and goalkeeper we still have no signed right back - unless Geggan expected to play there.

We have known since May 1st we needed a left back and I assume the decision was made privately long before then by McCall to release Boyle.

Get the guy who flooded this site with signing suggestions to get in touch with McCall and sort it out ;-)
