Play Offs.
« on: April 10, 2019, 13:20:09 »
Ok, its probably safe to discuss the playoffs now...  :-X

I would like to catch DUFC and finish 2nd, hopefully avoiding games against Inverness but knowing our luck Inverness would sweep past DUFC and we would still face them.

Regardless of league final position, I don't think we have anything to fear, just some renewed confidence would be good and see us into the final match.

Key dates :
8th May Ladbrokes Premiership play-off quarter-final, 1st leg
11th May Ladbrokes Premiership play-off quarter-final, 2nd leg
15th May Ladbrokes Premiership play-off semi-final, 1st leg
18th May Ladbrokes Premiership play-off semi-final, 2nd leg
23rd May Ladbrokes Premiership play-off final, 1st leg
26th May  Ladbrokes Premiership play-off final, 2nd leg

Copy of the rules for reference:

the winning Club in the second tie on a home and away knock-out basis.
The Club occupying position 11 in the Premiership will play the second leg at

aggregate scores are equal after the second leg of each tie extra-time of 30
minutes (i.e. 15 minutes each way) will take place and thereafter if
necessary kicks from the penalty mark will be taken in accordance with the
rules laid down by the International Football Association Board which will
determine the winner;

C24.5 the winning Club in the third and final tie will play and be entitled to
participate in the Premiership in the immediately succeeding Season;

C24.6 the losers of each of the three ties will play and be entitled to participate

Still waiting for someone to dust off Roger Mitchell so he can tell us we can't take part.

Ok so now the push to finish 3rd and have the 2nd leg against Inverness at Home on the Saturday with hopefully a bumper crowd.

Four league meetings with Inverness this season and no match has been won by more than a single-goal margin. If it remains close again and we are tied after the two legs of the play-off then we have grounds for being optimistic at winning a shootout. Inverness have had two penalties against Ayr United this term. These were taken by Liam Polworth (11th August) and Aaron Doran (6th April). The first one was struck wide and the other one was saved.

Is "C24.1" likely to be televised? Moved to Sunday morning at 11am etc etc?

last year the all 2nd leg games were moved to the Friday nights. TV schedule should be announced soon I guess.

Ok so finishing 3rd would be good but the reality is, not much difference apart from approx 70k (reported elsewhere), pros & cons for the 2nd leg at home but none the less it will be two difficult games against Inverness to overcome.

Should be we rest a few more players in the last 3 games and try out some of the fringe players that have been bench warming or continue full strength team to try & install winning confidence prior to these MASSIVE games.

Right at the moment, I'm not really confident of getting past Inverness being a potential "bogey" team but happy to accept the league results with the correct in these playoff games.

As for DUFC, already proved nothing to fear against them and last game probably was due to match fatigue (possibly).

Thanks for the research, although your answer was not what I wanted to hear! Yet more annual leave about to be sacrificed.

Need to break the cycle of form we have been in for the last 2-3 months, where what is relegation form has still seen us sit comfortably in the promotion play offs. Shaking up the team in the next 3 games might help but we need to do something as the quite real prospect of losing the next 3 league games coupled with our recent record, doesn't suggest we are going to suddenly find the will to win again in the play offs.

I'd play Forrest for the full 90 if possible in each of the next 3 games to get him fully match sharp.
