Title: Shanklands
Post by: titus on December 03, 2018, 13:36:30
Looks like a deal will be done with swansea,we will get a transfer fee and he will be loaned back to us for the rest of the season.if this is correct it think it is a win win situation for us.

If true totally agree sounds like a good deal, take the cash plus get to finish the season on a high.

Is this based on paper talk or actual formal contact between the clubs and the player. Apparently a host of clubs were at the game on Friday watching various players - including I am said to say, the dream option for the player and his dad (who is his agent).

I think Swansea trying to get in early but Shankland would be well within his rights to see what else is on offer in January, as he is one of the hottest properties in British football right now. Anyway I thought he wanted to go to England ;-)

important thing IF he goes will be a sell o clause, celtic have made fortunes that way recently

The Board should be making every effort to keep Lawrence at Somerset Park not selling him on for a pittance to warm the bench for some Taffie club.

Surely, the prospect of regular football in the Scottish Premiership with Ayr next season is got to be a more appealing to Lawrence, especially if the financial rewards are increased to compensate him for his undoubted ' star' quality.

Come on Board - show some ambition.

I think the player has shown loyalty to the club and also a bit of pay back for the redemption we offered him as in his own words he was on the footballing scrapheap. But we need to stop kidding ourselves on - he is likely to be offered life changing opportunities in the January window and I have no doubt he will choose the one that he feels is best for him, which may not suit the club or the support - the club do not have the means to compete with the likely 5 figure weekly salaries he will be offered.

The best outcome we can hope for is that a club looking to sign a 54 goals in 54 game striker is willing to wait till next season for him to join.

If, as has been speculated, a club like Swansea are looking to sign Shankland then it is impossible for the board, or probably anyone outside the OF, to make an offer remotely close to what he could earn there.

I actually hope that he does get signed in the January window and loaned back to us. As long as we get a healthy sell on clause the size of the upfront transfer fee wouldn't bother me.

I think we should cash in on Lawrence while we can, form comes and goes and if we can make money on him now, do it.

Swansea would be a great move for Shankland.  His competition for No 1 striker is that lanky streak of $%£& Ollie McBurnie.  Shankland all day long for me.

To say the club are showing a lack of ambition is a bit unfair.  Aberdeen could not hold onto Adam Rooney with what Salford were offering him.  Aberdeen had been the 2nd best club in Scotland and they could not compete.

Shankland is not a flash in the pan he has performed at a  constant high level since his arrival and with Ayr playing the style of football that suits his, he has proved all his doubters wrong.

It would be great to see him finish the season as an Ayr player, but we need to get real.  The money generated from his sale would go a long way and sitting top of the league on nearly 50 points in January.  Everyone would be happy with that surely.

I really don't understand the logic of Joe's, Ghost's and Jeff's arguments, surely, we as fans, should not be condoning the sale of our best centre forward since, arguably, Peter Price.
We should be pushing for the Board to hold their nerve and try to persuade Lawrence that his best interest lies with staying at Ayr where he will be part of a successful team with teammates who know how to feed him with chances on a regular basis, rather than taking a giant leap into the unknown.
I also think its fantasy that Swansea would lend him back to Ayr for the rest of the season as they are mid table and well out the play off places in the Championship.
The form of the Ayr team will, without doubt, take a nosedive if Lawrence departs, as there is nobody who can adequately fill his boots. I, for one, certainly don't relish that thought.

Not condoning it just facing up to reality - just as my mortal self won a big move to England after scoring 66 goals in a season - and sorry the footballing world is a completely different place since Peter Price's day.

I'd love the board to make an offer for him to stay and I am sure McCall is doing the mentor bit and trying to get him to see the bigger picture but at what point does it get unaffordable or disrupt the fantastic team spirit that we have - doesn't look the same player without the Moff so does he get a new bumper contract as well, Harvie supplied 10-15 assist so does he get a new bumper contract as well.

I have no idea what Shankland is on but it is not unreasonable to say he will get a starting offer of £10-15k per week from someone in January on a 2-3 year deal - on a 2 years/10k per week that is pretty much going to be clearing £250k a year after tax and NI even if he doesn't get a game - life changing money. If he thrives on a bigger stage it gets to be stupid money. At some point he is going to be offered something too good to turn down.

I do agree with you on how unlikely the loaning back is and that was my point in mentioning his goal ratio - he is 23, so not a promising youth player, someone buying him is not buying potential they are buying a goal scorer - why would you buy a goal scorer and not stick him straight in the team.

What I am accepting of is that the types of clubs that are being mentioned are a big step up from who was in for him in the summer - would be a genuine move up not sideways.

We should have 40 Points soon enough. So I'd be happy for Shankland to move on IF; We receive a £250K Fee, and secure a sizeable sell-on clause.

What I havn't seen discussed is that ( whilst Shankland is exceptional ) Ayr United as a team are creating a lot of chances.  With Moffat just behind and McDaid / Forrest + Harvie / Smith supplying crosses Moore, or indeed a replacement, would still score enough goals.

A Further 3 points:
We are pretty secure at the back,
It enhances the message to other young footballers that Ayr United are a team within which you can enhance your career,
We could use some of the cash to secure key players into next season,

Have to agree with Mr DAAS.
Take the cash and hunt for a cheap replacement.

The perfect deal for Ayr would be for us to get at least 500K for Shankland and loan him back to us for the rest of the season. If he goes l can see Ayr freefalling to mid table, we may never get this chance again to get to the premiership,as most of the team will follow him out at the end of season if we donít go up.If we go up even finishing in the bottom three we will still rake in more than a million and that is not including parachute payment if we didnít stay up.

Moore and Moffat looked reasonably potent before Shankland arrived, it is Moore and Shankland that don't gel so well.

I don't think we are quite back to long balls to Forrest as lone striker or Farid El Al Agui.

I don't think you're far off the mark with that, but my understanding is he won't be loaned back

hes always said he's in o hurry to leave, eep him till the end of the season & take athe hit; the £500,000 prize money plus the £1,000,000 minimum for thew bottom team in the Premier makes it an easy decision in my opinion

The only better one would for him to be loaned back & i'm hopefull that omne of the reputed 20 teamds intersted in him would do that to secure his services...

apart from this, can we not just enjoy him being here without speculating every week, its unsettling me nevermind him..... :o

That's a good read in the Ayrshire Post

Just what we want to hear from Lachlan when he says that this is a once in a generation chance to go for the topflight, and Lawrence has a huge value to this club and is vital to what we're doing

Couldn't agree more Mr Cameron
